On Thursday the 18th October, Boys & Girls for 7,8,9,10 represented Chaffey in Inter-School Super 8’s Cricket Tournament held at the Old Aero Ovals Mildura.

Teams competed in 7 & 8 Boys and Girls and 9 & 10 Boys and Girls.   Students competed against other schools in the district in two pools with the top two teams from each pool progressing to semi-finals.

The tournament started with 7 & 8  Boys and Girls and 9 & 10 Girls playing against Trinity Lutheran College and 9 & 10 Boys playing Irymple Secondary College. All games were played in very good spirit and sportsmanship. With 7 & 8 Girls and 9 & 10 Boys having a win while 7 & 8  Boys and 9 & 10 Girls playing well without luck.

The 9 & 10 Boys game was a very close and tightly contested game.  The boys were a bit rusty with their bowling with Irymple Secondary College making 129 runs, However, their batting was superb with Brennon Duffield hitting a Super 12 with 2 ball left to get the win.

The next game kicked off with 7 & 8  Boys and 9 & 10 Girls playing against St.Joe’s  and 7 & 8 Girls and 9 & 10 Boys playing against Merbein Secondary College. Like the previous game 7 & 8  Boys and 9 & 10 Girls played well however without luck.  The 7 & 8 Girls and 9 & 10 Boys was a very close and tightly contested game. The 7 & 8 Girls were unlucky and finished 8 runs short or Merbein’s score however the girls had done enough to make the semi-finals. The 9 & 10 Boys chasing only 107 for victory was a huge struggle until the last couple of overs with Cem, Sosefa Brennon getting us over the line which had us finish Top of our pool and off the semi-finals.

Chaffey’s next opponent was against St.Joe’s  for the 7 & 8 Girls with the accounted for very easily and advanced to the grand-final against the only team that had bet them for the day Merbein Secondary College well done girls. The 9 & 10 Boys semi-final was against Redcliffs Secondary College and  was a very close and tightly contested semi as you would expect. They batted first and amassed a reachable target of 102 after their allotted overs. Our  batting was the not the best it had been during the tournament it was very rusty  to say the least with everyone trying to hit every ball out of the park  after a brilliant bowling display by everyone. At one stage being 5 for 40 it was up Brennon, Sosefa and Micky T to get us over the line winning it in the second last over. The team was now on their way to the grand final, on a high and undefeated.

In the Grand Final, Chaffey 7 & 8 Girls came up against Merbein again while the 9 & 10 Boys had to place Irymple who they had previous beaten. The girls batted first in the final and amassed a really good score of 130 however was not quit enough for the win as Merbein Making 136 in the last over. Well played girls a really great job. A big thank-you to Abby Challis who looked after the girls for the day.

The boys knew it wouldn’t be easy the second time around as they would have a point to make as we beat them in the pool game.  Our team went in to bat first and we struggle with the bat again only being able to score of 99 our lowest score for the tournament. We did recover from 6 for 40 with another great batting performance from Sosefa and Cam Edwards who put on 59 for the last partnership.     The bowlers defended the score as best they could however falling a little short with Irymple passing our score in the second last over.  Chaffey can hold their heads high as all teams displayed excellent sportsmanship and teamwork over the day.

A big thank-you to Mr Kennedy,Ms Carmes and Abby Challis who helped on the day with teams. A big thank-you to our students great job you make Chaffey Proud.
