The relationship of psychoanalytic theory to psychoanalytic technique is complex and difficult. To assume a close association between practice and theory is not only illusory but it is dangerous for the development of psychoanalysis itself as Peter Fonagy has pointed out in 2003. Over the last ten to twelve years the workshops of the Working Party of Comparative Clinical Methods, held during EPF-Congresses, have scrutinized a large number of clinical cases that many respected analysts were so brave to present. In our moderators group we discussed these cases in detail and in many cases we also discussed it with the presenters.
