Job Description – Library Co‑Director

A. Position Summary:

The Library Co‑Directors are responsible for the overall smooth operation of the Library, including the creation of a cordial atmosphere in the Library, and the purchase of books, magazines, videos, audiobooks, and other materials and supplies.  The Library Co‑Director is also responsible for the maintenance of records, reports, statistics, and the planning and implementing of special programs for adults and children.

B. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend Board meetings
  •  Recommend needed policies for Board action and furnish Board with pertinent reports
  • Carry out policies of the Library as adopted by the Board
  • Be responsible for, or delegate responsibility for, story hours and other programs for children and adults
  •  Provide reference service at the Library and through Vermont’s Interlibrary Loan System
  • Maintain cataloging, weeding, replacement, and collection development
  • Select and order all Library books and other materials
  • Go to the Midstate Library Service Center and select books for borrowing on a regular basis and be responsible for records of these books and returning them when due
  • Prepare Library report of the Annual Town Report
  • Maintain confidentiality for all records pertaining to patrons
  • Communicate and cooperate with the Cabot School Librarian as well as the Midstate Library Service Center and all other libraries in Vermont
  • Maintain accurate circulation reports
  • Provide regular news releases to the local media about Library projects, new books and materials
  • Attend professional meetings and workshops as requested or recommended by the Board
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Board
