Field meeting programme for 2015

Post date: Apr 29, 2015 10:16:27 PM

The programme of events for the Bucks Invertebrate Group has been sent to members and is now up on the events page.

The first meeting is this coming Saturday 2 May, at Mop End Field Centre near Amersham. We're aware that many members of BIG have never attended one of our field meetings, so this meeting has been designed to provide an introduction so you can try it out and see if you like it! We'll meet at 10am to look for insects and give you a chance to try out different ways of finding, catching, photographing and identifying insects. Guidance will be provided if needed on identification and how to find out more. Stay for the afternoon to explore more of the habitats around the Field Centre. We will then meet again at 8pm to set up moth traps. The finish time will depend on the weather but if it is good we will stay till midnight or so. Water/tea/coffee will be available at the centre, bring a packed lunch if staying for the afternoon session. The Field Centre is surrounded by grassland, woodland and heathland, and has small ponds. Lots of species were seen last time we visited (in August 2013), so if you are new member, or haven't been to a field meeting for a while, this is an ideal opportunity to find out more about insects and BIG. Regular field meeting attenders are also very welcome of course! Thanks to the Field Studies Council for providing the venue.
