St Paul's is a warm, friendly church welcoming visitors and seekers. Evangelical in tradition, the Sunday services use the Church of England's service book 'Common Worship' and are very informal in style. Music embraces traditional hymns as well as well-established and new worship songs. Worship is led by a small music group which includes various instruments and singers. The church is situated just off the main Brentwood to Chipping Ongar Road (A 128) on Mores Lane. It is a magnificent setting often described as a 'hidden gem'. The beautiful Victorian building regularly plays host to weddings. The St Paul's Church Centre adjoins the main church building and provides an excellent venue for mid-week meetings and after church tea and coffee. St Paul's has a thriving work amongst children and young people mainly due to its strong links with Bentley St Paul's Primary School. Sunday congregations include many young families, children and teenagers. There is a thriving Mothers Union - the largest branch in the local area, made up of mums of many different ages and involved in much more than knitting and sewing! A lunch club for the over 60s is held monthly on Fridays. St Paul's regularly runs Alpha Courses and follow up groups. There are midweek groups that meet for Bible Study and discussion.
A group from the church take termly assemblies at Bentley St Paul's School using the 'Open the Book' programme. The whole school visits the church once per term for a service.
A partially glazed, soundproof meeting room in the SW corner of the church was opened in 2009. It is a multi purpose room but will be used primarily as a creche room during services allowing more space in the church centre for our children's work. A new AV system has been installed which has assisted greatly in enhancing our worship. There is a group of dedicated campanologists (Bell ringers) at St Paul's, who serve the church in a long traditional way; calling people to worship and providing celebratory peals on special occasions. There is also a handbells group that meets on Wednesday evenings. For more information about the bells and when the group practice click this link to go to that page.
