The Benito & District Recreation Centre has been in full operation serving the surrounding community and beyond for over 35 years. These many years of service have taken a toll on the building, and it is now time to perform some major upgrades to the facility in order to continue its operation and viability within the community.
The Board of the Benito & District Recreation Centre is performing, planning and preparing for some essential major upgrades to the facility. Thanks in part to the Manitoba Hydro Energy Grant and Hometown Manitoba a full lighting upgrade is now completed.
Thanks to several donations, grants and loans the replacement of the sections of roof over the curling rink and ice skating arena has been completed this past summer. Congratulations to all who participated, donated money and time to achieve this lofty goal. The BRC Board has quickly proceeded to the next project in the upgrade to the centre, the addition of insulation and replacement of the sheeting on the North and East walls in the curling rink. This project was vital not only to make the building more energy efficient, but to create a cleaner, healthier environment by removing the deteriorated material. Thank you to the volunteers who helped remove the old walls and install the foam insulation and strapping. You must check it out; it looks fantastic! However, it is still not complete. The strapping and insulation is to be covered with 3’ x 16’ coloured tin sheets. This is where we ask for your help. You can purchase one sheet of tin for a $50 donation. You will of course be issued a tax receipt for your donation, and your name will be placed on a donor board, specific to this upgrade, displayed within the lobby of the Rec Centre as recognition. What a wonderful way to show your support toward the preservation and beautification of the complex. Other upgrade plans, particularly to the kitchen, concession, bathrooms and hockey change rooms are slated next for completion as funding becomes available.
The board and volunteers continue their committment to this facility by working hard to fundraise and applying for funding and grants from several sources. We have been successful in securing some grant funding and are grateful, however, there is money borrowed that must be paid off and other upcoming projects that need to be completed. The Benito Recreation Centre needs your help, so to make your tax deductible donation toward the BRC Upgrade, please send donations to:
BRC Upgrade, Box 187, Benito, MB R0L 0C0.
The Rec. Centre Board would like to Thank the many families, businesses, organizations and individuals who have already donated money in support of the upgrade. Your commitment to the facility, and in turn the future of our community, is commendable. |
