Composting for Everyone!
Drop-off locations are:
BPC Parks Headquarters, 75 Battery Place
Lower level of N. Esplanade, Chambers St. and River Terrace
Do you know why the plants in our neighborhood are healthy and flourishing? Compost is used to replenish the soil! Composting returns decomposed plant materials to nature.
You can add your own fruit and veggie discards to be composted. A convenient way to store your contributions is in used yogurt, coffee, or cottage cheese containers. You can store any container with a lid in your fridge or freezer. Then, when you go out for a walk, take it along and empty your container into the compost bin.
Sitting Circle
2PM Fridays and (some) Tuesdays
Join with others in the fresh air to sit and visit.
Come to the inset benches on the Esplanade, just south of the Gateway pool (and Merchant's Restaurant) and just north of the Upper Room. These benches form right angles so we can sit comfortably and enjoy the breeze off the river.
Reminders: Bring water to stay hydrated, cushions to soften the wooden benches, and whatever makes you comfy!
RSVP here so we can save you a space and alert you if plans change due to weather.
If you can't find us out there, call 917-698-2911 for help.
BPC Wildlife Observation
Complete this survey to participate in the Battery Park City Authority Wildlife Census. Find a quiet spot in the park to complete a 10 minute wildlife observation. This information helps us create better habitat for native insects and migratory birds that call Battery Park City home.

All About QR Codes
What are those weird little boxes? They’re QR (Quick Response) Codes and they’re getting more popular.
By now anyone with a smartphone has noticed the proliferation of QR codes. They may look like messages from aliens who want to take over the planet, but they’re actually a machine-readable code used for storing website URLs or other information for reading by the camera on a smartphone. Click here to find information from Senior Planet explaining what are QR codes, how to use them and precautions to avoid dangerous hacks.

Medical Alert Systems
Medical alert systems, sometimes referred to as personal emergency response systems, are wearable devices that make it easy for seniors to get the help they need in the event of a fall or another medical emergency. This website of caring.com looks like an encyclopedia of medical alert systems. It contains detailed information on a lot of products, advice on matching products to individual needs, product recommendations, and information on costs and payment assistance. Once you are in the website, be sure to click on "Read Our Review" for each product that interests you. Then, look at and consider the information that is available. Only you know what features will benefit YOU and what pricing is best for YOU!
