BARMING HISTORY SOCIETY

Welcome to the Barming History Society

Barming History Society held its first meeting in September 2009 when Edwin Boorman told us about '150 Years of the Kent Messenger'. Since then we have had talks on subjects varying from the Crown Jewels to Old Houses in Barming.

We have monthly meetings from September to April usually with a speaker except in December when we have a 'Christmas Social' for members involving a quiz, refreshments and musical entertainment.

Also we have occasional outside trips which have been popular. We have visited Chatham Dockyard, Arundel Castle and Portsmouth Dockyard, with a voyage on the Thames and viewing the Cutty Sark in prospect for June 2013. More locally we have been to Maidstone Museum, the Carriage Museum, the Town Hall and the new Archives Offices in Maidstone.

Currently we have over 100 members but we welcome new members. Meetings are held in Barming Village Hall, Heath Road, Barming ME16 9JU and start at 7.45pm. There is no charge for monthly meetings for paid-up members. We welcome visitors to meetings who are charged a small fee. Please see details in the meetings page about the meetings being held during the Covid crisis

Our Society is affiliated to the Kent History Federation and the British Association for Local History
