Items and Artifacts

The museum accepts items of historical significance that pertain to the years 1830-1885. Items ranging from medical, homesteading,

everyday life, religious etc.

We also accept items that have direct provenance to West Farms/Franklin.

Any potential donations of an objects acceptance is at the discretion of the museum collections manager and is taken in on a need basis.Once we take in an item into our collection we then are tasked with its preservation. The cost to do so varies from item to item.  The factors that we must consider include but are not limited to; The provenance, size, condition and the cost to store and preserve.  Please consider a cash donation at the time of your object donation, this helps our small budget go further.

Once we have agreed to accept an item(s) we require a "deed of gift" to be acknowledged and signed by donor.  Once completed the item(s) then become the property of either the Ashbel Woodward Museum or the Franklin Historical Society.

Its pretty evident that we LOVE old stuff and the history that it holds, please understand it pains us just as much you if we have to say no to a particular item or collection.

If you have an item that you would like us to consider please contact the museum by either calling 860-642-1988 or emailing us at ashbelwoodwardmuseum@gmail.com
