Welcome to ArtGr 484/584, Game Design & Development.

Humans have been devising and playing games for thousands of years. People are always interested in new games, so there is constant demand for new game designs. Nearly 50 years ago, a group of students developed a game where players control two space ships and fired torpedoes at each other. Since Spacewar!, video games have become complex systems of art and engineering.

Despite the long history of game design, surprising little study has been devoted to understanding its formal game studies or practical game design. This course will investigate this craft.

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

- Demonstrate an understanding of the design and development process
- Deconstruct a games's features and understand the associated gameplay
- Design and implement the vertical slice of a 3D game
