The mission of this Association is to promote mutual understanding and goodwill between the peoples of Japan and the Pacific Northwest United States by fostering cultural & intellectual enquiry relating to Japan, community service, and fellowship by and among alumni of Japanese Government Scholarship Programs.

We pursue cultural and intellectual enquiry at meetings, presentations, seminars, shows and social gatherings, and over email. We perform community service by sharing information about Japan-related community events, attending or volunteering at said events, recruiting future scholarship recipients, and by providing pre-departure and post-return orientations for new and returning scholars. Fellowship is the natural fruit of these activities. We enjoy these opportunities to interact with others who have comparable experiences and interests.

Membership is open to all past participants in any of the following Japanese Government Scholarship Programs who currently reside in the states of Washington, Montana, or northern Idaho (regions overseen by the Seattle Consulate-General):
  • graduate research fellowship (kenkyuusei)
  • undergraduate Japanese studies (nikkensei)
  • technical studies
  • vocational studies (senkousei)
  • teacher education (kyoukensei)
  • undergraduate degree
  • Association of International Education in Japan Honor Scholarship
