All praises are due to Allah, Our Creator, and Sustainer of the entire creation. We thank Allah for guiding us to this beautiful religion, and choosing us as His servants in His path. We send our salutations to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace & Blessings be upon Him).
"On the Day of Resurrection the Quran will petition to cloak the one who was a companion of the Quran (recited it often) with garments of honour and respect. A crown of honour will then be placed on the head of the reciter. The Quran will then petition to Allah to shower His pleasure on the reciter. Allah will then become pleased with him. The reciter will then be aksed to recite the Quran, thereby attaining higher ranks of elevation. In reward for each ayah, a good deed will be given to him." (At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Maajah, ibn Khuzaymah) ~ Hadeeth of the Nabi Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah upon Him).
Many Muslims know that seeking knowledge is encouraged in Islam, but few know what is necessary as far as intention, deeds, and manners when seeking knowledge. Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, said, .I heard the Messenger of Allah, , say, .The world is cursed, that which is in it is cursed, except thikr Allah (remembering Allah) and what follows it, or a learned person, or a student. Related by Ibn Maajah. In another saying related by Ad-Daarimi, Ka.b said, .The world is cursed and that which is in it is cursed except a teacher of khair (good) and a student of it.. The Messenger of Allah also said, "Who takes the path hoping for knowledge, Allah makes easy for him the path to Paradise. Verily, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge out of pleasure of what he is doing. Verily all in the heavens and earth seek forgiveness for the knowledgeable, even the fish in the water. The excellence of the knowledgeable over the servant is like the excellence of the moon on the night of the full moon over all the planets. Verily, the learned are the heirs of the Prophets, the Prophets do not leave dinar or dirham, but they are inherited in knowledge, and he who takes it takes a great bounty." Abu Dawood, Ibn Maajah, and Ibn Habbaan.
Alhamdulillah, The idea of this Academy has started with a discussion with The imam of Stegman rd masjid, Claremont. Sheikh Riyadh Walls approached us to initiate silat classes during the week at the masjid in order to bring beneficial activities to the masjid. The idea then progressed to become the first Haafith School in Cape Town integrating sports activity within the school curriculum. The idea is not new, as this kind of Islamic education system is the norm in Malaysia and Indonesia, whereby the teachers are educated in Deen as well as in Silat martial arts. We hope that this Academy will be one of the beacons of light for contiuous guidance, spiritually, mentally, and physically Ameen.
Our youth is one the most important sectors of the Ummah as they are the future of society and continuously need to be given tools to lead a good pure life. The vices of society are many, and we believe that if the youth have the necessary spiritual nourishment, their resistence to wrong will be much higher. A Muslim must be strong in order to faithfully carry out his or her duty towards Allah. That is why the nabi Muhammad (S.A.W) said "A strong believer is better than a weak believer." How much better will it be if our huffaath become useful with their hands as much as with their minds and hearts. This is the reason why we have included other subjects like Islamic Art & Calligraphy, Silat and Inshaad.
The carriers of the Quran should be humble, so that their hearts can be filled with wisdom. Learning Seni Silat martial arts along with the memorisation of Al Quran will teach us discipline, respect and humility and hopefully this will contribute towards producing better Huffaath Insha-Allah.
