Example Design Projects

Upper Montclair Country Club – Clifton, New Jersey

This course renovation project, consisting of an existing 27-hole, private golf club in Metropolitan New York involved updating an A.W. Tillinghast/Robert Trent Jones, Sr., golf course facility. Tee complexes, bunker complexes and practice areas were also part of the course improvement master plan program. A complete redesign of the club's short game area and putting green was recently completed. https://www.uppermontclaircountryclub.com/

Before Renovations During Renovations

Renovations on this 340-yard Par 4, 2nd Hole on the West Course at Upper Montclair CC involve adjusting the bunker locations, shaping and sand lines to take into account enhancement of "risk & reward" play options, embellishing the visual drama and fairway drainage improvements on this short two-shot golf hole . This par 4 is largely a creation of Robert Trent Jones, Sr., built during the middle 1950's when construction of the Garden State Parkway required altering the A. W. Tillinghast layout.

Brae Burn Country Club – Purchase, New York

AJH Golf was originally hired to assist the Club with the development of a long-range master plan. Proposed improvements include tee leveling and expansion, bunker renovations, pond excavation, drainage and fairway re-contouring. Several fairways along with the practice fairway require significant regrading to improve playability, strategy and drainage. Frank Duane originally designed the course in the late 1960’s. https://www.braeburncc.org/course

Crystal Mountain Resort - Betsie Valley Course - Thompsonville, Michigan

AJH Golf was initially retained by the owners, Jim and Chris Macinnes, to assist with the Resort's Golf and Grounds Manager, Jason Farah to review tree clearing on the Betsie Course to open up play corridors helping with air movement and sunlight penetration for bolstering healthy turfgrass growing environments. That assignment lead to the design creating sand waste areas on holes #4 and #5, echoing clues found elsewhere on the two courses at the Resort. The project also included select tee complex and fairway renovations on holes #8 and #9. https://www.crystalmountain.com/

Glen Head Country Club – Glen Head, New York

This private, 18-hole club retained A. John Harvey to develop a comprehensive master plan to address renovations to tee and bunker complexes. Historic aerial photography and related drawings are assisting in the development of the plans and the construction work. The Club was originally known as Women’s Golf and Tennis Club as developed in 1923 by Marion Hollins and designed by a consortium of Devereux Emmet, Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Raynor. AJH Golf continues to serve the Club and oversee course improvement considerations. https://www.glenheadcountryclub.org/
