The Macintosh Performa series is a consumer product family of Apple Macintosh personal computers Apple Computer sold through department stores and mass-market retailers from 1992 until 1997, when it was superseded by the Power Macintosh 5x00 series. The Performa series was not an entirely new line of computers, but simply renamed models with slight hardware tweaks from Apple's regular professional oriented line of computers, such as Quadra, Centris, LC, and Power Macintosh. Whereas the non-Performa line of professional Macs were sold by Apple Authorized resellers, the Performa line was sold through big box and mass-market retailers such as Good Guys, Circuit City, and Sears. The initial series of models consisted of the Performa 200, based on the Macintosh Classic II, the Performa 400, based on the Macintosh LC II, and the Performa 600, based on the Macintosh IIvx.
The following table shows the various Performa models, and the non-Performa models to which they correspond:[6]
