The tournament was played over seven rounds with the first round on the evening of Friday,10 March, and two rounds per day for the three following days. The time control of 90m30s made for some long games and fatigue became increasingly prevalent as the rounds ground on. There was a good turnout of thirty players though there was a disappointing absence of several higher-rated local players - maybe next year. A high level of participation from players already holding FIDE ratings means that several previously unrated players will now secure their international ratings. The winner of the 2017 ACT Championships was IM Andrew Brown who won all seven of his games. Second place was secured by IM Junta Ikeda on six points, losing just the one game to Andrew Brown. Third place was shared by Dillon Hathiramani and Tim Pearce on five points each. Saffron Archer and Siddhant Badrinarayan shared the 1400-1699 prize, while Amol Kiran won the Under 1400 prize. Canberra veteran Joe Marks also picked up a prize, with the best score by a non FIDE rated player. Joe has also secured a potentially solid FIDE rating, ruling him ineligible to win this prize again next year. Detailed results, including games, are available at: http://tournaments.streetchess.net/actchamp2017/ Many thanks are due to Championship Arbiter Shaun Press IA, who also catered for the event and uploaded all the games, some of which from grossly illegible score sheets. If you find any of the games missing moves, please blame the players, not Shaun. Thanks to all participants. Everyone seemed to enjoy their chess and all played with good spirit and respect. ACT Lightning Championships 2017 The ACT Chess Association held the 2017 ACT Lightning Championship on the evening of Monday,16 January 2017. It was held at the Vikings Erindale (same venue as the recent Vikings Weekender) courtesy of the Tuggeranong Chess Club who generously volunteered to also host this important event. It wasa 9 round swiss, with a time limit of 5m per player per game. The tournament winner was Fred Litchfield, undefeated on 8 points, a clear point ahead of Tor Lattimore and Matthew Bennett, both on 7 points. ResultsCross TableNo Name Feder Rtg 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1.
