Public Information

What is PIC?

Like all of A.A., the primary purpose of members involved with public information service is to carry the A.A. message to the alcoholic who still suffers. Working together, members of local Public Information Committees (PIC) convey A.A. information to the general public, including the media. In doing so, PICs must ensure that A.A. remains a programme of attraction rather than promotion.

What does PIC do?

Bermuda PIC tries to carry the message to the public domain through a variety of channels. These include:

    • Updating and printing A.A. meeting cards.

    • Maintaining the Bermuda A.A. website, www.aa.bm

    • Being available to talk, when asked, to schools, businesses and organisations.

    • Providing information to the media about A.A.’s principles, purpose and organization where necessary or when asked.

    • Developing information advertisements for local media.

    • We ensure that local A.A. information is available and up to date on popular local websites such as eMoo and Bermuda.com.

    • We make GSO-produced Public Service Announcements available to local radio and TV or wherever they may be used.

    • We produce posters with local A.A. contact information and place them in as many public places as possible including post offices, Visitor Information Centres, company notice boards, church halls, etc. We are arranging for special youth-oriented material from GSO to be distributed to schools.

    • Arranging for A.A. materials to be provided for the Portuguese community.

How can I get involved?

PIC consists of around 6-8 people but we’re always looking for volunteers and new ways to reach the sick and suffering.

If you have an interest in carrying the message, we’ll find a job for you! Perhaps you’d like to help with meetings in the prisons, distributing materials, or maybe you’re good with writing, computers or design that can help us carry the message in new and innovative ways.

Bermuda PIC meets every two months at Wesley Methodist Church Hall on Church Street, Hamilton – usually 7pm on a Tuesday. Meetings usually last about an hour.
