Principal's Welcome

August 2019

Dear George Washington High School Families and Community,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! Our campus will be buzzing soon with the energy and excitement that a new school year always brings.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for students to become lifelong learners who think critically, and strive to reach their full potential while maintaining mental and physical health. Our goal is that all Washington High School students will grow to be resilient, productive, and contributing members of their communities. As your Principal, I understand that our mission cannot be achieved without the support and collaboration of our families and community.

In this packet, you will find important information to help make the beginning of the new school year smooth for your student. The first day of school is Monday, August 19th. If you are the parent/guardian of an incoming 9th grader, please make sure to read the flyer about freshman orientation on August 16th. I also want to remind every family to complete an SFUSD meal application by following the instructions included in this packet. The meal applications are important to Washington High School because much of our school funding is determined by the number of meal applications submitted. Students who are eligible for meal benefits may also qualify for other programs (i.e. AP/SAT test fee waivers, scholarships, jobs, internships).

All of us at George Washington High School are eager and excited to begin the 2019-2020 school year. We are ready to continue to provide academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and help them build relationships while making real-world connections. As your Principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors - teachers, students, families and community members - feel welcome and valued. This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive and nurturing environment. My door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to call (415-750-8400) or email (saunderss1@sfusd.edu) me to discuss any concerns you might have throughout the school year.

I look forward to sharing your child’s high school journey with you. Go Eagles!

Ms. Susan Saunders
