Alicia Saenz

"My decision to pursue National Board Certification came about because although I have been teaching for several years, I have always known that it takes a lot of learning to become a better teacher. I have always tried to improve my teaching practices and I have taken all the feedback from my administrators to heart. Still, I know that I have not always met the needs of all my students. This is why I feel that pursuing this certification would be a great asset for me and my students."

What will earning your National Board Certification mean to you?

I believe that earning the National Board Certification means that I will be able to meet the needs of all of my students. Also, it will allow me to set high standards for my students so that they will excel in their studies. I also believe that this certification will help me manage my time in the classroom so that I will be able to deliver my instruction more effectively.

What motivated you to join the fellowship?

When I first heard about the program I have to say, I was a bit intimidated however, I knew that it would be a program that would strengthen my abilities as a teacher. We all know that students rely on their teachers to support them in any academic area necessary. I want to be able to support my student’s needs in their academic journey to become independent individuals.

What are your early impressions of the fellowship?

I am still in the learning phase and I still feel a little apprehensive about being able to do well as I move through my National Board Certification journey. However, I know that I have a support system that will help me as I move on to become certified.

What do you hope to get out of the fellowship (aside from your certification)?

I hope to be able to improve my instruction and motivate my students.
