Dear MES Families,

The Middlebury Elementary School PTO (MES PTO) welcomes all new and returning students and their families back to school! We are excited to collaborate with you, and the MES faculty and staff, in enriching the learning opportunities and school experiences of our children during this school year.

For those who may not know, the MES PTO is a non-profit organization managed by an annually elected board of directors (parent volunteers you may know already, and, if not, we’d love to meet you!). Unlike a national PTA, you do not have to pay dues to become a member or get involved and informed. What does this mean? It means that ALL parents/guardians and faculty/staff associated with MES (not just elected board and committee members) are automatically part of the PTO, and we really need and appreciate your help, ideas and talents.

So what does the MES PTO actually do? A LOT, and too much to list here! We sponsor social events, coordinate school-wide programs, sponsor curriculum enhancement events (cultural arts and author/illustrator programs), build community and provide funding directly to the school. The PTO is also a sounding board for parents, teachers/staff and administration in identifying questions, concerns and ideas related to our organizational mission.

In order for us to provide programs, events and resources on a yearly basis, it is necessary to fundraise. This year, we will continue the Box Tops and Amazon Smile programs, which are great fundraisers because they ask only for your participation, but no direct monetary outlay. We also have a direct-donation option. How can you stay connected? We have a Facebook group: Middlebury Elementary School PTO. This is a closed group for parents/guardians and teachers/staff. Look out for more information in the Chirps Chatter e-newsletter.

Our PTO meets on a regular basis, and we hope you will join us to learn more about PTO happenings, to share ideas and to provide input throughout the year. Our first PTO meeting is Monday, September 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the school. Come meet board members and committee chairs, learn about plans, and be a part of making this a great school year!
