¿AGENCY OR "SOLO"? PROS AND CONS

BY RICARD MARTINEZ - POSTED 14/06/2021

After our brief first year in the recruitment business, we have found ourselves facing another odd built over time.

Many clients, and some contractors as well, do believe that the purpose of the recruitment agency is merely redundant and unnecessary.

I will not go into detail about what kind of experiences both clients and contractors have had in order to get to this conclusion, but the concept is often the same: "recruitment agencies are just in the middle getting paid for doing nothing".

From our very own experience, although being relatively new in the business (in the recruitment part at least), we can affirm that the job of a recruiter is tough, and it takes a lot of time and energy.

What a client gets when using the services of an agency, is getting rid of the burden of searching, screening and selecting the right candidates in a short term basis, which (we relate) can be a tedious job.

Also, other aspects like negotiating rates and conditions, as well as invoicing, are taken care by the agency.

On the other side, a contractor engineer, apart from being taken into consideration for a wider network of clients and contracts, will also benefit from prompt payments regardless of the client's payment schedule, as well as other benefits like travel, accommodation and in some cases insurance management, in case the client is not directly providing.

So, both client and contractor will see a significant reduction in their workload if they allow the recruitment agency to take care of all these burdens.

Recruitment agencies are there to grant both clients and contractors they can focus on the important; the client, to get the requested service and pay accordingly. And the contractor, to do his job and get paid accordingly.

These advantages are specially crucial for short term contracts.

On the other hand, for those clients and contractors which already have a good, long term relationship, it is rather obvious that they might not need to have an agency in between, since all these processes might be already settled; that's totally understandable.

Whatever your case is, and whatever you choose, it is important that you are aware of these differences.

And of course if you choose us, we'll be always a call away to assist you with all the necessary, so you can focus on what really matters: to get the job done.
