Gr. 12 Career Timeline 2021-22

Sask Polytechnic's First Qualified, First Admitted Admission Steps: 

Click the drop down box for the Steps to Apply:

1) Find your program on the SK Polytechnic website.

2) Click "Apply Now".

3) Create your application and pay the $80 fee.

4) ***Mrs. Thiessen know you've applied so an unofficial transcript & current schedule can be sent to SK Polytech to complete your application.

5) Request your official transcripts to be sent to SK Polytech here.

UR Accelerated Courses (High School Accelerated at the U of R)

UR Accelerated classes are a great way to try out a university course while you’re still in high school. You pay regular U of R tuition for the course and study in an online cohort of other high school students. 


The High School Accelerated Course offerings will include:

Regina Trades & Skills - 12 to Trades Program

Before you know it, another school year will be over, and you will be out the door after graduation! What will you do? A perfect opportunity is the “12 to Trades” program at Regina Trades and Skills. This is a paid 6-week program starting on July 11, 2022, where students are given workplace skills and safety training and then placed in a trade of their choice. Most successful work placements lead to full time employment! Please see www.rtsc.org for more information. The deadline to apply is May 8th! 

Summer Apprenticeship Program

SAP will be up and running this summer.  It is designed for Grade 10, 11, & 12 students looking to explore occupations in the trades through summer employment. There are four Apprenticeship Credits available for high school students working under a Journeyperson’s supervision with the RDIEC providing support and supervision that is required for these students to earn high school credits in the Regina region. We are in the process of contacting employers and creating advertisements for a job board.  As completed, these advertisements will be sent out to you through our weekly update and will also be posted on our RDIEC website. ·       May 2                       Employer Ads for SAP due to RDIEC office

·       May 6                       SAP Job board to schools and on RDIEC website

·       Students apply directly to employer for SAP jobs as per instructions on Employer Ad

·       May 24                     Deadline to apply for posted jobs

·       May 27 – May 31      Student Job interviews by Employers

·       June 5                      SAP Employer notifies students

·       June 10                    RDIEC Notifies Students

·       June 21                    SAP Student Applications due

·       June 29                   Student Safety Training @ Campus Regina Public (9:00 am – 5:00pm)

o   SYA, Saskatchewan Safety Council Career Safety Education, including SCOT (Safety Construction Orientation Training) &  YWRC (Young Workers Readiness Certificate)

·       July 4                      Students go to work

·       July 11-15                 First job site visit, Midterm Evaluation

·       July 25-29               Second Job site visit, Final evaluation of 1st Apprenticeship credit

·       Marks submitted

·       August 8-12             Third Job Site visit, Midterm Evaluation

·       August 22-24           Fourth Job site visit, Final Evaluation of 2nd Apprenticeship credit

·       August 30                Marks for second apprenticeship credit submitted

New!! JumpStart Your Learning: university readiness online workshops (TBD)

Please inform your teaching staff of USask's new free 50 min workshop for students contemplating or preparing for university. Students will meet with a Learning Specialist who will cover topics such as:

Students should leave the workshop feeling more confident about their ability to pursue a university degree and better prepared to hit the ground running. You can direct students and the staff who support them to the registration site or download the info sheet to share with them.

Post-Secondary What's Next Links

Once you have applied to post-secondary, it is important for you to watch for emails from the school you have applied to.  Those emails will guide you to your next steps, which usually include creating a student post-secondary portal, ensuring required documents have been submitted, etc. I have listed below Next Step links for post-secondary institutions. 

Career Exploration Resources

ChatterHigh is a gamified content engagement platform to help students prepare for life after high school.  In partnership with Skills Canada Saskatchewan a contest called Saskatchewan’s Most Informed Student/School Competition  will run from April 4th to April 13th.  This is an excellent opportunity for students and schools in grade 6 - 12 to win cash prizes while becoming more informed about career and post-secondary options after high school. 

 

Skills Canada is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills and have fun.  Students learn about the skilled trades and technology careers through hands-on activities and demonstrations.  Please keep checking the site for updates and competition dates. 

 

The Communicating for Agriculture Education Program offers students the opportunity to gain agricultural work experience in various parts of the world. 

 

Want to learn French?

Explore is a five-week intensive language-learning program for grade 11 & 12 students who want to learn or want to continue to learn French as an additional language.  Participants will receive a $2200 bursary and have the opportunity to experience another region of Canada.

Request your Official Transcripts:

All students who have applied/are applying to post-secondary institutions must complete a SK Ministry of Education Transcript Request to send their official transcripts to their institution. 

Transcripts can be requested online at www.k12.gov.sk.ca/etranscript. The cost of the request is $25 and the fee can be paid online or by a mailed cheque. A step by step PDF guide and YouTube video about how to request your transcripts can be found below.
