They’re motivated; they’re enthusiastic and energetic; they’re Mid-Shore Scholars. As high school students enrolled in the Mid-Shore Scholars branch of Talbot Mentors, they aspire to college and career goals and to be the first in their families to attend college. Additionally, five of the 22 scholars will participate in a pilot literacy program, MSS Literacy Squad (MSS Lit Squad), which will pair them with 1st to 6th graders who are enrolled in Talbot Mentors. These high school scholars will provide positive role models for the young, emerging readers in need of one-on-one tutoring.

MSS is teaming up with Talbot Mentors to offer a free program for its mentees. Reading is a fundamental skill that is crucial in nearly every subject area. Being an excellent reader is not only invaluable in school, but opens up a whole world of life-long knowledge and adventure. Our Scholars, known as the Lit Squad, pay it forward by helping others with reading skills.
