State aid funds up to 40% of eligible project costs when voters approve a referendum. Mendham Township School District qualifies for 37% state funding for its proposed projects.
The district identified projects to maximize state funding eligibility. As a result, MTSD would receive state aid covering 37% of the project costs, which would reduce the tax impact by $7.4 million.
The district seeks to borrow money through the sale of bonds to fund facility and grounds repairs and renovations.
Bond borrowing is a strategy to make improvements upfront and spread the costs over time (similar to a home equity loan).
