PLEASE NOTE: I am only available for IM2 tutoring for 24/25 school year!
Integrated Math 2 continues the integrated approach to high school mathematics, combining topics from algebra, geometry, and statistics. It builds upon the concepts introduced in Integrated Math 1, offering a deeper and more complex exploration of mathematical principles. Here are the key topics covered:
Quadratic Functions and Equations:
Understanding the properties of quadratic functions
Graphing quadratic functions and interpreting key features (vertex, axis of symmetry, intercepts)
Solving quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square, and using the quadratic formula
Exploring the relationships between the coefficients of a quadratic equation and the shape of its graph
Polynomials:
Performing operations with polynomials (addition, subtraction, multiplication)
Factoring polynomials and solving polynomial equations
Understanding the Remainder Theorem and Factor Theorem
Similarity and Congruence:
Understanding and proving triangle congruence criteria (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, and HL)
Exploring similarity in terms of transformations and using similarity theorems
Solving problems involving similar triangles and other similar figures
Right Triangle Trigonometry:
Understanding and using trigonometric ratios (sine, cosine, tangent) to solve problems involving right triangles
Applying the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse
Properties of Circles:
Exploring the properties and equations of circles
Understanding and applying theorems about angles and segments in circles (e.g., central angles, inscribed angles, chords, tangents, and secants)
Geometric Transformations:
Statistics and Probability
Probability and Statistics:
Extending understanding of probability, including compound events and probability rules
Analyzing and interpreting data using more advanced statistical methods
Understanding and applying concepts of conditional probability and independence
Integrated Math 2 builds on the foundation laid in Integrated Math 1 by deepening students' understanding of algebraic and geometric concepts and introducing more complex ideas in statistics and probability. The course is designed to help students make connections between different areas of mathematics, reinforcing their skills and preparing them for the even more advanced topics covered in Integrated Math 3. This integrated approach aligns with the Common Core State Standards, ensuring that students develop a well-rounded and interconnected understanding of mathematics.
