Social Studies TWC

Vision Statement

We will know we have achieved our mission when students can analyze varied resources to understand multiple perspectives, effectively communicate and collaborate in diverse communities and think critically in order to understand the past, engage in the present and impact the future..

Mission Statement

The mission of the social studies curriculum is to engage all students in a rigorous, authentic, student-centered learning environment that fosters social understanding and civic efficacy in our multicultural, national and global societies.

As part of our committment to balanced literacy, students at all grade levels engage with authentic text about history, geography, current events, and economics. Students participate in shared reading, listen to teachers read aloud, and join in book clubs where the reading is about social studies topics. During guided reading or model lessons durnig literacy instruction, students enjoy more social studies content as they learn.
