Last week on May 17th, 2015, all the collaborators on this project met for the first time in Happy Camp, CA. Many of the collaborators hadn't met face to face, so this was a great opportunity to meet each other and discuss our visions for this project.  It was evident that everyone was happy to be part of this research and we were all so excited to have the opportunity to spend time together in such a beautiful place.  After an evening of music (thanks Jeff Shatford!) and good food, we had a meeting to discuss to our goals and timeline for the project.  We discussed the selection of field sites and outlined a plan for the modelling portion of the project.  Later that day, we went out in the field to see a plot and discuss the protocol for data collection on a plot firsthand.  The field crew was arriving later that week and several of the PIs stayed to meet them and help them get started on the data collection.  Overall, it was a productive meeting and we all left energized to work on this project and learn more about this diverse and beautiful landscape.
