HC&S Grant

Kekaulike was fortunate to be one of 16 organizations selected to receive a HC&S Community Initiative Grant to support the Senior Project. HC&S was impressed with the number of students who used the Senior Project as an opportunity to get involved and make a difference. This grant will be used to encourage and support students who are doing projects that directly impact the community. Students can apply for up to $100 to support their project.

Types of Community Projects (eligible to apply)

    • Cultural Event
    • Educational presentations at another school
    • Roi-Round Up
    • Volunteering with organization and then organizing an event.
    • Skatepark Contest
    • Other projects that show a direct impact on the community

Not Eligible

    • Making a physical product for individual use (guitar, skateboard, surfboard, etc)
    • Repairing or refinishing a vehicle
    • Home gardens
    • Cookbooks
    • Individual athletic training

Students applying for the grant must understand the following:

    • Funds will be reimbursed to you in the form of a single check (no cash).
    • Receipts for all purchases need to be turned in to Mr. Carosso no later than January 23, 2015. If this deadline is not met, funds will not be given.
    • Receipts should only include items that are for senior project, no personal items.
    • Items on the receipts must match the items listed on the budget from the grant application. Any variations from the grant application must be approved by Mr. Carosso (with signature) prior to the purchasing of the item.
    • Checks will be distributed no earlier than 2 weeks after all receipts are turned in. Therefore, students must be able to front the funds to purchase the items.
    • Students should be able to cash or deposit the check within 2 weeks of receiving it. If this a problem, check can be made out to a parent or guardian.

Kekaulike has the ability to offer up to 10 individual grants to the Class of 2015. Students will need to compete a grant application process in September in order to be considered. This process will include a written application as well as a personal interview with members of the Senior Project grant advisory board. Students receiving grants will be required to complete additional Senior Project requirements related to the grant in both their online portfolio and community presentation.

Students interested in applying for this grant should complete the application and submit it with all required signatures by September 22, 2014.
