Work Skills BTEC

Course Outline
Work Skills is a 2 year BTEC qualification from Edexcel which teaches key employability skills, attitude, behaviour and communication, applied numeracy, team working and problem solving skills. The Work Skills units offer a positive focus on what the learners can do, building confidence and self esteem. Work Skills encourages the notion of life-long learning and skills development.

Programme of study
Work Skills is currently offered as a BTEC Level 1 or Level 2 Certificate. Students work on several units such as:
· Managing your own money,
· Working in a team,
· Effectiveness at work,
· Interview Skills,
· Career Progression,
· Running and planning an Enterprise Activity,
· Managing your health at work.

As with other BTEC courses, a student’s portfolio of evidence comprises 100% of the final marks. Although there are assessed tasks throughout the year, there are no final examinations for students to sit.

Students are expected to complete homework tasks which could be an extension of the work in lesson or a separate task which may meet one or more of the Work Skills assessment criteria. It is important therefore that students show commitment to completing all homework tasks set.
