Be a participant monthly in "Chavis C.A.R.E.S"

Event #7: "Chavis C.A.R.E.S. about College"
1-In March, Thursday, 3/12 - Thursday, 3/19 students will vote for their favorite NC college by donating a quarter or more at lunch, they will receive a piece of candy, and all proceeds will go to the 3rd Peace Out/Chavis CARES scholarship that will go to a 2015 CHS senior at the end of the year.
2-On Friday, 3/13 - students will show their support and their colors by wearing their favorite COLLEGE or Chavis/CHS shirt.
3-During March Madness week, students will complete and display their graduation caps revealing what their future holds in store!

Chavis CARES about College!

FINAL RESULTS: We raised $102.93 during Chavis CARES about College Week.  On behalf of JCMS and Chavis CARES, we donated $100 to Hoops for Hope to benefit the National Cancer Society.

Event #6: "Hoops, Hearts, Hugs, & Kisses"
In Februray, we are asking students to: 
1-Donate .50 cents at lunch to participate in the Kissing Booth - a sweet treat for Valentine's week
2-Donate $1 for a half court shot; chance to win a Valentine's Day Prize Pack.  Students will donate money for shot during the week at lunch, names put on a list and will be allowed to shoot during encore on Friday, February 13th
***All donations will go to a CHAVIS family in need.

Hoops, Hearts, Hugs, and Kisses!


Through "Hoops, Hearts, Hugs, and Kisses" students were able to donate $329.76 to Chavis families in need.

AND also:

On Friday, February 13th, 8th graders at John Chavis Middle School participated in the school’s third annual “I Love Dodge ball” contest.  8th graders earned participation in the Valentine’s Day event by donating valentine cards and candy.  The Chavis’ 8th graders were able to donate enough cards and candy to send every student/teacher (over 450) at Cherryville Elementary something for Valentine’s Day.  The Valentine’s Day games of dodge ball were a huge hit, literally.  All the students had a blast playing dodge ball because their targets were ……………. their TEACHERS!

Event #5: "Be in the SOUPer Bowl"
In January, we are asking students to: 1)bring at least one can of SOUP (or any canned food item) from Jan. 12 - Jan. 29th - the grade level that brings the most will win a day in the lunchroom where they can sit with anyone they choose.
2)Friday, Jan. 30th - students can wear a hat for a $1.
***All canned food items and donations will go to a Cherryville Area Ministry 
3)On Friday, Jan. 30th, students are encouraged to wear a player jersey or any team (high school, college, or pro) shirt to promote this activity.

SOUPer Bowl!

FINAL RESULTS: 661 cans and $100 donated to a Cherryville area ministry.

Event #4: "Holly Jolly Week"
Week of December 16-19
TUESDAY (12-16) "Secret Santa's Workshop"
-Buy a candy-cane-o-gram for a $1 and tell others you care.
-All candy canes will be delivered Friday during homeroom.
WEDNESDAY (12-17) "Deck The Halls"
-Ornaments will be decorated during the week and put out for display on your grade level's hall.  "Which grade level's tree will shine the brightest?"
THURSDAY (12-18) "Who's Coming to Town?"
-Dress as your favorite Christmas character from any Christmas story or movie.
FRIDAY (12-19) "Tis  the Season to be Jolly"
-Students wear RED or GREEN to school.

Event #3:  "Be a Superhero"
Week of November 17-21 - Donate a quarter or more and receive a piece of candy - donations will go to cover postage for all Operation Christmas Child boxes donated during the week - grade level with the largest donation will receive an extra combined break.
Grade levels will decorate a pumpkin that will be displayed on grade level halls - let's all create a pumpkin that shows what we're thankful for!
Remember: Wednesday, November 19th - Chavis C.A.R.E.S. Papa John's pizza night - portion of sales goes to Chavis C.A.R.E.S. - remember to tell them what homeroom you're in and that you're ordering for Chavis!


FRIDAY, 11/21/14 - Final Results: The Chavis C.A.R.E.S. (Chavis Aspires to Reach Everyone through Sharing) group November activities were geared towards being thankful. Every student was given the opportunity to decorate a pumpkin to show things for which they are thankful. These are displayed in our halls.  In addition, students collected spare change throughout the week at lunch and before school to go towards the shipping costs for the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. In total we collected $840.07 which is enough money to pay for all of the boxes that were collected by the student council (118) at Chavis.

Wednesday, October 22, 2014 - Papa John's Pizza night, tell them Chavis and your child's homeroom teacher when purchasing - all proceeds donated to Chavis; winning homeroom gets a pizza party.
 Thursday, October 23, 2014 - "Turn it Pink" day - students wear PINK shirts, pants, hat, and/or socks to promote breast cancer awareness
Friday, October 24, 2014 - "Rock the Red" day - students wear RED shirts, pants, hat, and/or socks to kickoff 2014 Red Ribbon Week ("Love Yourself, Be Drug Free)

Event #1: Friday, September 12, 2014
Wear ORANGE and/or BLUE to show that JCMS is going to show everyone that "Chavis C.A.R.E.S."
Students can wear their favorite hat for a $1.00.  All donations will go to Cherryville Area Ministries.
