About the teacher

Hello everyone,

My name is Gloria Caldwell and I have 37 years plus experience as a registered nurse. As a junior in high school, I always knew I wanted to be a nurse. I have never regretted my decision. I love nursing and especially the patients that I cared for in the past.

I am from Lexington,NC, the BBQ capitol. I attended Gardner-Webb University and earned my AA. Degree in Nursing. I enrolled at UNCC's BSN program to earn my BSN in Nursing. While at UNCC I also decided to get my degree in education as well. I earned my BS in Education and then finally completed my Master's Degree in Nursing Education.

I have worked as a nurse in a hospital setting for over 33 years. For the last Marla and me!

24 years I worked as the coordinator for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in

Gaston County and built that program from the ground up to what it is today.

While in Cardiac Rehab I went to Wake Forest University several summers to earn my sports medicine certifications as an Exercise Specialist, Test Technologist, and Exercise Leader-Aerobics. I currently have three certifications by the American College of Sports Medicine which helped me tremendously in my role as exercise physiologist and Coordinator of Cardiac Rehab.I performed all the stress testing and developed the exercise Rxs for my cardiac patients. I was in charge of a staff of 13 professionals.

As the Coordinator of Cardiac Rehab I earned my certification as a Cardiac Nurse Specialist RN-C.

So you can see, education is important to me. I stress that in my classroom.

In 2001 I was nominated and won the award of one of the Top 100 Nurses in NC. I also won the In Search Of Excellence award, voted on by my peers, in 2004 and 2007. I do love Nursing!

I started teaching at South Point 5 years ago and enjoy it very much. As a mom myself, I can identify with my students here at SP. My children are the most important thing in my life. My oldest son is an Attorney,my beautiful daughter is a Dentist, my third child is a double major student at NC State, majoring in Sports Administration, Business, and Coaching. He is a walking encyclopedia on most sports and their players! My youngest son is a student at Forestview High School and plans to attend college as well and major in Veterinary Science.

My hobbies are tennis. I am a USTA player and play on a ladies team. I also enjoy dancing and choreograph dances for different social functions from time to time.I enjoy time with my children and girlfriends. I am active in my church circle at First Methodist. I love my puppy Marla and my cat Oliver. I'm a huge UNC fan.GO HEELS! I love ACC basketball. Tyler Hansbrough was my hero! My daughter and son went to UNC with him.

Finally, I'd like to say that my classes are interesting, lots of studying must be done, information that you can actually use in your career, but most of all they are fun. I love to joke with my students and hopefully relate to them in an understanding, compassionate way.

So proud to be a Raider! Go Big Red!!!!!!
