Arrival and Departure Information

For the safety of our students, we ask that you not drop your child off before 8:20 A.M. unless you are staying with your child, or your child is involved in a supervised activity, or special arrangements have been made with a Timber Trail staff member to provide supervision. Unsupervised students become a liability issue for the school and district.

If your child is transported to school in a local child care van or by someone other than you, please make sure they understand that students are not to be dropped off before 8:20 A.M. If you have questions, please call the Timber Trail office.

Each day before students arrive at Timber Trail, teachers and staff are engaged in individual planning, team meetings, and committee work. Before school, it is each teacher's responsibility to prepare for the day's lessons as well as communicate with colleagues about curriculum, instruction, and student needs. It cannot be their responsibility to supervise students who arrive early.

TTE uses a “soft start” in the morning.  Students will be allowed to enter the building at 8:20 am and go directly to their classrooms where their teachers will be waiting for them.

All students will enter TTE through one of the three doors on the front (south) side of the building.  Fourth and fifth grade students will enter through the east most door.  Second and third grade students will use the middle door (near the music room), and first graders will enter through the front door.  Kindergarteners will meet their teachers in the gym each morning for the first few months of school.  They too will enter through the door furthest to the east.  Each of the doors will be manned by a staff member.

The use of a soft start allows students and staff a chance to begin their day in a more calm and relaxed manner.  The first bell will still ring at 8:30 am and the tardy bell will ring at 8:35 am.  If adults wish to enter the building, they will need to park in the upper parking lot (do not leave car unattended in the Kiss ‘N Go Lane!!!) and enter through the front door to sign in and receive a visitor’s pass.

Students who are picked up at the end of the school day will be waiting outside near the flagpole. Either stay in your car in the "Kiss and Go" zone and wait for your child, or park in a legal parking space and escort your child to your vehicle. Our parking lot is very busy and safety is of utmost importance to us.

Tardies

It is important that children arrive on time for school. A "tardy" child not only disrupts the class when arriving late, but he/she misses an important part of academic learning time. When it is unavoidable and a child is tardy, please come into the office and sign students in. The office will make sure they get counted for lunch as well as remove them from the "absence" list. The student also needs to take an "admit" slip to the teacher. Please call the 24 hr attendance line at 303.387.5702 by 8:30 am for all absences and late arrivals.

Early Departure Information

If a student needs to be taken out of school before the end of the school day, it is required that an adult come to the office and sign the child out. The office staff will call your child's teacher, and your child will meet you at the front office. All parents are required to sign students in and/or out each time they come in late or leave early. We highly discourage families from taking students out of school before the end of the day, due to the fact that they miss instruction, closure, homework procedures and it is disruptive to the class.   These early departures will be counted in the attendance, just like morning tardies.   We encourage all parents to schedule doctor appointments on in-service days or before and after school hours.

End of Day Messages

Please limit end of day messages to emergencies and have them called in no later than 2:45 for guaranteed delivery.   We will be glad to deliver these to your child at the end of each day.

Bicycle, Scooter, Skateboard and Rollerblade Rules

Only students in grades 3-5 may ride their bicycles and scooters to school unsupervised. If accompanied by a parent, students in K-2 may ride bikes or scooters to school. The parent may then lock the bike or scooter to the rack and return at the end of the day to unlock it and accompany their child home. It is a parent's responsibility to make sure their children are wearing the appropriate safety gear (helmets, pads, etc.). Safety rules must be observed at all times or the privilege will be revoked. Once on school property, bikes and scooters must be carried or pushed; they may not be ridden on campus. All bikes and scooters must be locked during the day.   Bikes and scooters should be clearly marked with the student's first and last name. Timber Trail will not be responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged bikes and scooters. Rollerblades and skateboards are not allowed at Timber Trail.

Walkers

For safety reasons, if your child has your permission to walk to or from school, please notify your child's classroom teacher and the office of this decision.   We ask for written permission to be kept on file in the office. Please email these instructions to tteoffice@dcsdk12.org .
