Every October, school districts across Colorado are mandated by state law to count their students. This number is incredibly important, because the headcount is used to determine how much state funding each district-- and in turn, each school-- receives. While Douglas County School District always encourages student attendance and participation, October 1 is important because of its direct impact on funding, it is just one day. If students are too sick to go to school or must be absent for another important reason, the District does have an ability to report updated numbers.
