IMPORTANT COGAT TESTING INFORMATION

The week of  September 4th and September 11th  all Timber Trail students in Grade 3 and 5 will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates.  These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.

During these weeks, we will also test “referral” students in grades one, two and four to determine areas of strength and possible identification for gifted programming. The referrals for CogAT testing may come from the parent and/or the classroom teacher.  If you would like to have your child take CogAT and go through the gifted identification process, please contact your child’s teacher or Debbie Clemente (debra.clemente@dcsdk12.org) by Tuesday, August 22nd.
