8/15/13 Email Blast

Dear Timber Trail Families,
We hope everyone has had a wonderful start to their school year.  We know that it takes a few days to work out all the kinks.  Thanks for your patience and input, but most of all thanks for your continued and wonderful support.

Welcome New Staff:  We would like to welcome the following new staff members to Timber Trail:
Jen Carpenter - 5th grade
Linda Johnston - Health & Wellness
Nicole Goering - Psychologist
Jennifer Blair - Speech Language Pathologist Assistant
Colette Compoz - Health Assistant/Office Clerk
Crystal Pethtal - Instructional Assistant - Tech & Library
Michelle Cronin - SSN Educational Assistant
Lisa Serino - Mild/Moderate Educational Assistant
Kris Altmix - Kitchen Manager

New Specials Class:  This year we have added Health & Wellness (H&W) into our specials rotation in the place of technology.  This was done for several reasons.  First, we want to incorporate technology more fully into the classroom curriculum.  Not having tech in the specials rotation will allow the lab to be available for classes to work on projects.  In addition, this year some state and district mandated testing will be done online.  This testing will tie up the tech lab for approximately 12 weeks throughout the year.  Students will rotate between PE and H&W within a two week block.  Art and music will run on one week rotations.

We want to welcome Linda Johnston as our Health & Wellness teacher.  Linda  is a certified PE teacher and has been teaching Health & Wellness at Northridge Elementary for the past five years.

Technology Update:  Speaking of technology, due to your generosity and the support of our TTEA, we now have approximately 300 iPads in use at Timber Trail.  Over the summer we were able to purchase two laptop carts that will each hold 20 MacBooks.  These carts will be available for teachers to use in their classrooms in addition to the 3-5 computers and 7-10 iPads they currently have in their room.

Names in Backpacks, Lunch Boxes, and Coats:  Please take a moment to write your child's first and last names in their lunch boxes, back packs and coats.  Our Lost & Found basket is already full!  If names are written in these items, we will make sure they are returned to their rightful owner as soon as possible.

TTEA Meeting:  The first TTEA meeting of the year will be held in the cafeteria on Monday, August 19 at 9:00 am.

Picture Days:  Picture Day for kindergarten, first, and second grades will be Wednesday, August 21.  Picture Day for third, fourth, and fifth grades will be Thursday, August 22.

Curriculum Nights:  Curriculum Night for first and second grades will be Wednesday, August 21.  Curriculum Night for third, fourth, and fifth grades will be Thursday, August 22.  Both nights will begin at 6:00 pm in the gym.  Please note that kindergarten will not have a curriculum night as theirs was held in May.

Dogs on School Property:  Just a reminder that it is Douglas School District policy that dogs are not allowed on school grounds from 6:30 am - 6:00 pm.
