Dear Timber Trail Families, It is hard to believe that spring break is here and there are less than 10 weeks of school left. Before we go on break, I want to share some of the great learning that has been happening at Timber Trail. Last week our fifth graders presented their summative project for their "What's Up Doc" PBL unit. After being given patient dossiers and collaborating in small groups over several weeks, they diagnosed each of their patients. The groups created slide shows and presented their findings to a board of medical professionals. The panel asked the students about the symptoms and findings and were very impressed by how knowledgeable and professional the students were. To understand how the legislative branches of the state government work, each fourth grade class created their own class government complete with a governor, senators and representatives. Students drafted bills that were then passed through both the house and senate. A few of the bills that were sent to President Radke for approval, giving students the opportunity to learn how a presidential veto works. Timber Trail is proud to have had 25 students represented in the annual DCSD student art show which concluded on Monday. This was the largest group of students from any school. Look for an upcoming story about this in the Castle Pines Connection. Kindergarteners applied their knowledge of force and motion to plan, design and create leprechaun traps. While no leprechauns were caught, they did create quite a bit of mischief in the classrooms last night. These are just a few examples of how our students take the skills and knowledge and apply them at higher levels, making the learning authentic and sustainable. Have a wonderful spring break!
