Dear Timber Trail Elementary School Families,

Since August, our school team has worked to promote student wellness and achieve the goal of every student in Douglas County knowing when they need help and where to get help. This month students will become more aware of their role in the prevention of school violence.

Based on students’ developmental levels, we will explore this topic with our students.

  • Elementary, Middle, and High school students will review “Red Alerts” and understand that they need to report immediately if they see or hear something that may cause violence to their school or injury to others.

We encourage you to support our efforts by discussing this month’s topic of how to recognize and immediately report Red Alerts. Check us out next month when we explore: Awareness: Substance Abuse and Addictive Behavior.

Your child’s safety is of the utmost importance, and Timber Trail Elementary will do all we can to support every student’s well-being. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Ms. Radke or Mrs. Goering.  Please consider the resources offered on the  PREVENTION and SCHOOL CULTURE (https://www.dcsdk12.org/prevention-and-school-culturewebsite if you want more information about this topic.

In Partnership,

MIchele Radke- Principal

Nicole M. Goering, Ed.S., NCSP- Licensed School Psychologist

*REMINDER-NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS MONDAY, MARCH 27

Timber Trail Elementary follows  the DCSD 2016-17 Conventional calendar.  The exception to this is Monday, October 17, 2016 (Monday after fall break) and Monday, March 27 (Monday after spring break)  when TTE students will not attend school due to teacher professional development.  These two dates only pertain to Timber Trail. Other schools in the Rock Canyon feeder will have school on those two days.  Timber Trail has five more minutes in our day to provide for two additional staff development days in the year.  Our B.A.S.E. program will be open those days to provide a childcare option. Again, this change is only for Timber Trail Elementary, not the entire district.

CHILD CARE (B.A.S.E) OPEN FOR SPRING BREAK

Spring Break is coming soon! Invite a friend!  B.A.S.E. will be offering reduced registration fees for new families (must be students at TTE or RHMS).

Are you watching kids scroll through life? With their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well. In SCREENAGERS, as with her award-winning documentaries on mental health, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, we welcome you to discover surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists in this extraordinary and timely film.  The film is appropriate for students grades 6th and up.  Please contact Kimberly Romine at kcromine@dcsdk12.org or Lauren LaComb at lllacomb@dcsdk12.org for additional information.
