Dear Timber Trail Elementary School Families,

As we work towards promoting student wellness in all areas, we want to ensure that every student in Douglas County is given tools to recognize risky behaviors and ultimately develop their own resiliency.  As adults, we may recall childhood as a carefree time, however, children today are growing up in a world with many more stressors than ever before.  Resiliency, the ability to recover from adversity, trauma, tragedy, illness, or even significant sources of stress, can help children manage so they’re better equipped to handle the bumps on the road of life. When our students are resilient, the frequency of bullying, school violence, substance abuse and suicidal ideation reduces.

Based on students’ development levels, we will explore this topic with our students:

  • Elementary, Middle and High school students will be introduced to 99 Coping Skills.

  • Middle and High school students will review all warning signs.

We encourage you to support our efforts by discussing this month’s topic of Building Resiliency and Awareness Around Risky Behavior with your student. Check us out next month when we become more educated on: Awareness Around Bullying and Harassment.

Remember that if your child shares thoughts or behaviors that concern you there are many resources available to you at your student’s school (counselor, mental health provider, teacher) and in the community. Your child’s safety is of the utmost importance, and we at Timber Trail Elementary will do all we can to support every student’s well-being. Please consider the resources offered on the  PREVENTION and SCHOOL CULTURE (https://www.dcsdk12.org/prevention-and-school-culture) website if you want to learn more about this topic.

In Partnership,

Michele Radke- Principal

Nicole M. Goering Ed.S., NCSP- Licensed School Psychologist
