Dear TTE Families,

I hope you and your loved ones had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  The next two weeks are full of activities and celebrations.  This is also the time of year when we are given the opportunity to share with others.  Below you will see the charitable activities that our Timber Trail students and families can participate in this holiday season.  Please know that all of these are optional.  Families are welcome to participate (or not) in those activities that work best for them.

We would also ask you to ‘Save the Date’ for our first ever TTE Showcase Evening on Monday, January 9 from 5:00-7:00 pm.  This open house evening will be a time for students to share with their families what they have been learning and creating during the first half of the school year.  There will be more information to come.

Those of you who have students in 2nd-5th probably heard quite a bit from your child on Monday about the virtual field trips they took using Google Expeditions.  Here is the link to the email I sent sharing information about the many virtual reality apps that are available.  Some are free (Google Expeditions) and can be loaded on a phone or tablet.  In addition, you are able to purchase the same View Master goggles that the students used Monday.  You just use your own iOS or android phone and one of the apps.  If you are looking for a unique stocking stuffer, here is a link to Amazon where the goggles can be purchased for less than $15.

I want to thank you for taking the time to read this weekly email and those you receive from the teachers.  I know these can be long, but they are filled with important information and dates.

Thanks for helping make Timber Trail the school where ‘Hearts and Minds Connect’. Have a wonderful weekend.

Michele Radke, Principal

"LEAN ON ME" BAKE SALE ON WEDNESDAY,  DECEMBER 7

Our third graders have been hard at work trying to make the holidays a little brighter for local families within their current PBL unit, titled "Lean on Me."  The third grade has "adopted" 7 families with a total of 21 people through the Crisis Center in Castle Rock.  The students are participating in "Operation Elf" and will provide holiday presents to each family member. Students have been working hard to raise money at home and will be hosting a bake sale on Wednesday, December 7th during student lunch times.  The bake sale will supplement the goal of raising $800-$1000 per classroom.  Baked goods will be $1.00 cash and all proceeds will go directly into a pot that will be divided equally for each class to purchase the gifts.

While we are asking our parents to provide "nut-free" items for the sale, please know that since the goods are coming from home we can't guarantee they are nut free.  If you have a child who is allergic to nuts, please coach them on acceptable items to purchase at the sale.  Thank you for helping us with this wonderful project.  We appreciate your support!!

HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE-TREY McCLEERY FOUNDATION TOY DRIVE

Please join Kindergarten as we help support the 3rd Annual Trey McCleery Foundation Holiday Toy Drive

We are beginning our needs and wants unit and what better way to support our community, than by giving back to a local charity. Toys will be donated to the Children’s Hospital of Colorado in remembrance of Trey McCleery, a former Timber Trail student.

If you would like to participate, please bring in a new unwrapped holiday toy to school.  Please drop off  gifts by Friday, December 9th .

SOCK IT TO ‘EM CAMPAIGN!  TOAST THE TOES OF KIDS IN NEED!

Fifth graders will be participating in the Sock it to ‘em Campaign which is a non-profit started by a Castle Pines resident and involves collecting socks for the homeless.  The socks are distributed throughout the state to homeless in need.

During the week of December 5-13, Timber Trail will be collecting NEW socks for children who need our help to have toasty toes this winter.

Homeless families comprise roughly one-third of the total homeless population.

Approximately 2.5 million children experience homelessness over a year. Socks are the #1 clothing need of those experiencing homelessness.

WINTER IS HERE!

It's that time of year...cold weather is upon us!

We are sending out this email to ask for your support in helping your child make appropriate clothing choices during cold weather. This morning, numerous students were wearing shorts, shoes with no socks, and NO COAT!

Please remind your child that they are not dressing for just "from the car door to the front door" but also for the possibility of an extended period outside. As a general rule of thumb, we go outside for recess if it is above 28 degrees (with wind-chill factor). The decision to go out or stay in is made during the day and will change as the weather changes throughout the day.

Safety is always our first priority. This is a time where we need your help and support in making sure our students are prepared and ready for our ever changing weather.

IN THE EVENT OF A DELAYED START

Timber Trail Elementary start time is 10:00 am with a drop off time starting at 9:50 am.

Morning kindergarten is canceled. Bus routes are on a 90 minute delayed schedule. Morning enrichment classes are canceled. Child care (B.A.S.E.) is also on a 90 minute delayed start. Dismissal time does not change with a delayed start. All students will dismiss at 3:30 pm.

As always, safety comes first. If parents choose to keep children home for safety concerns, we will respect that decision. Please call the Attendance Line at 303.387.5702 if your child will not be in class.
