Dear Timber Trail Elementary School Families,

As we work towards promoting student wellness in all areas, we want to ensure that every student in Douglas County knows what steps to take when they encounter a peer or family member in need of help. It’s often difficult for children to know what to say or do when they recognize a peer or family member needs help.  They may be afraid of intruding or saying the wrong thing so they assume someone else will intervene.  If they know someone needs help, the person to say something is them.  If we can get students help when they need it instead of waiting for someone else to do it, then we decrease the likelihood of bullying, school violence, substance abuse, and suicide.

Based on students’ developmental levels, we will explore this topic with our students:

  • Elementary, Middle school, and High school students will learn about Trusted Adults and Sources of Support.

We encourage you to support our efforts by discussing this month’s topic of how to help a friend or family member. Remember that if your child shares thoughts or behaviors that concern you, you too can follow the A.C.T. model (acknowledge, care, tell). Check us out next month when we explore: Healthy Relationships.

Remember that if your child shares thoughts or behaviors that concern you there are many resources available to you at your student’s school (counselor, mental health provider, teacher) and in the community. Your child’s safety is of the utmost importance, and we at Timber Trail Elementary will do all we can to support every student’s well-being. Please consider the resources offered on the  PREVENTION and SCHOOL CULTURE(https://www.dcsdk12.org/prevention-and-school-culture) website if you want to learn more about this topic.

In Partnership,

Michele Radke- Principal

FALL BREAK STARTS MONDAY, OCTOBER 9!

Timber Trail Elementary follows the DCSD 2017-18 Conventional calendar.  The exception to this is Monday, October 16, 2017 (Monday after fall break) and Monday, March 26, 2018 (Monday after spring break)  when TTE students will not attend school due to teacher professional development.  These two dates only pertain to Timber Trail.  Other schools in the Rock Canyon feeder will have school on those two days.  Timber Trail has five more minutes in our day to provide for two additional staff development days in the year.  Our B.A.S.E. program will be open those days to provide a childcare option. Again, this change is only for Timber Trail Elementary, not the entire district.

THANKS TO YOU OUR “BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS” FOOD DRIVE WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!

Our school-wide "Breakfast FOR Champions" food drive was a HUGE success!  Due to Fresh Harvest no longer needing our donations we were able to donate a value of $1,250 worth of cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix and syrup to families in need to our new community partner, There With Care.  There With Care said, "Everyone in our office was BLOWN AWAY and so thrilled to have such a generous donation!" Thank you so much for your donations, the kids loved seeing the huge collection in town center.

On Sunday, October 22nd at 12:30pm, there is a volunteer orientation if your family would like to get involved to help pack and deliver groceries to families with a child that is critically ill.  Please contact VolunteerTraining@therewithcare.org or Anna at agspitzer@yahoo.com to sign-up or have questions, one parent is required to attend training.

MILES, THE DENVER BRONCO MASCOT HELPS TTE CELEBRATE FUEL UP TO PLAY 60!

On Wednesday, Oct. 4 we had a special visitor at Timber Trail.  Miles, the Denver Broncos' Mascot came to our school to celebrate Fuel Up To Play 60 and teach students about the importance of eating a nutritious breakfast and other healthy meals.  He also shared how getting 60 minutes of exercise a day is healthy for our students' growth and development.  Healthy food and exercise can positively impact student success in the classroom. This assembly was sponsored by the Western Dairy Association and our local NFL team, the Denver Broncos.  A big "thank you" goes out to our 3rd grade Fuel Up To Play 60 Leadership Team who were involved in helping organize this assembly.  Another "thank you" to everyone who wore Bronco colors and Bronco shirts.  Miles was very impressed!
