Dear TTE Families,
I hope you had a wonderful fall break. I don't believe the weather could have been any better. Tuesday I had the pleasure of watching our third graders present their most recent PBL project. The title of this unit was "Putting the Pieces Together".  The challenge of this unit was to design a playground that would meet the needs of autistic children. Their authentic audience included parents from The Joshua School, a school for children with autism located in Denver, and parents of special needs students in DCSD.  Students worked collaboratively in small groups to design a playground.  The groups had a choice of how they presented their plan; poster, 3D model or electronically. After their presentation, groups then had a question and answer session with the panel.  The students were excited and proud to share what they had created, and it was obvious that they had put much time, effort, and research into their plans.  For me the most exciting thing to see was the compassion the students exhibited as they advocated for the needs of their autistic peers.  Kudos to our third grade teachers and students for a learning opportunity that extends well beyond a playground design.

Timber Trail receives 10 cents for every Box Top submitted! Last year, we raised over $1500 for our school, just by clipping Box Tops.  We will be collecting Box Tops on October 24th and again on February 20th.  The classroom that has collected the most Box Tops, wins a pizza party!  Start clipping and saving those Box Tops.
We will be starting a new campaign to collect Labels for Education - these "points" can be exchanged for various items our school could use - from basketballs to paint supplies to iPads! Labels can be found on over 2,500 foods and snacks that you already use, including Campbell's soup, V8, Goldfish, Emerald nuts, Pepperidge Farm cookies and Dannon yogurts and more. Click here to download a full list of products. You can send them in with your box tops and we'll do the rest! Box Tops and Labels for Education due dates are October 24 and February 20
Van Gogh School photographers will be taking individual retake photos for students that were absent or had unacceptable photos.  Please return the entire package of pictures you are unhappy with to the photographer on retake day.  Van Gogh will print the original package ordered in the new image.  If you missed picture day in August, please see attachment below for Van Gogh order form.
Please make arrangements to pick up your order between 2:30 pm- 4:30 pm on Wednesday, October 29. We do not have storage at the school. Any student with 4 or fewer items will automatically have the order sent home with them.  Thank you for your participation!
Halloween is just around the corner.  All Halloween parties will be held Friday, October 31st. Kindergarten, first, and second grades will have their parties in the morning, and pm kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth grade parties will be in the afternoon. Your child's teacher will share specific information regarding their class's celebration with you.
Students are asked to bring a change of clothes in a bag clearly marked with their name. After the parties, students will change into their school clothes, and then it is business as usual for the rest of the day.
A reminder that no weapons or replicas of weapons are allowed as part of a costume. This includes guns, swords, knives, light sabers, etc.  If you have a question regarding a costume, please contact your child's teacher.
With the parking restrictions on Bristolwood, please plan accordingly for parking during the Halloween parties.  We encourage carpooling or parking in adjacent neighborhoods. Just a reminder that the streets in the Village Homes development to the east of TTE (Bristolwood Dr. and Bristolwood Ln.) are private and parking is not allowed within that neighborhood.
October 20-November 20
