Dear TTE Families,
I hope you had a wonderful fall break. I don't believe the weather could have been any better. Tuesday I had the pleasure of watching our third graders present their most recent PBL project. The title of this unit was "Putting the Pieces Together".  The challenge of this unit was to design a playground that would meet the needs of autistic children. Their authentic audience included parents from The Joshua School, a school for children with autism located in Denver, and parents of special needs students in DCSD.  Students worked collaboratively in small groups to design a playground.  The groups had a choice of how they presented their plan; poster, 3D model or electronically. After their presentation, groups then had a question and answer session with the panel.  The students were excited and proud to share what they had created, and it was obvious that they had put much time, effort, and research into their plans.  For me the most exciting thing to see was the compassion the students exhibited as they advocated for the needs of their autistic peers.  Kudos to our third grade teachers and students for a learning opportunity that extends well beyond a playground design.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION and LABELS FOR EDUCATION -DUE DATE OCTOBER 24!
Timber Trail receives 10 cents for every Box Top submitted! We will be starting a new campaign to collect Labels for Education - these "points" can be exchanged for various items our school could use - from basketballs to paint supplies to iPads! Labels can be found on over 2,500 foods and snacks that you already use, including Campbell's soup, V8, Goldfish, Emerald nuts, Pepperidge Farm cookies and Dannon yogurts and more. Click here to download a full list of products. You can send them in with your box tops and we'll do the rest! Box Tops and Labels for Education due dates are October 24 and February 20
