Dear Timber Trail Elementary School Families,

As we work towards promoting student wellness in all areas, we want to ensure that every student in Douglas County gains understanding of the difference of bullying and harassment behavior versus normal conflict.  In recognizing a bullying situation, students need to be able to effectively identify and communicate their feelings.

Based on students’ development levels, we will explore this topic with our students:

Elementary, Middle, and High school students will examine Bullying vs. Normal Conflict and will explore Cyber Bullying reporting through the video “Report Cases of Cyberbullying.”

  • We encourage you to support our efforts by discussing this month’s topic of Awareness Around Bullying and Harassment. Check us out next month when we discuss: Protective Factors Around Suicide on several appropriate developmental levels for elementary through high school.

Your child’s safety is of the utmost importance, and we at Timber Trail Elementary will do all we can to support every student’s well-being. There are many resources available to you at your student’s school (counselor, mental health provider, teacher) and in the community. If your child has expressed thoughts of harming himself/herself and you need immediate assistance, please dial 911 or bring your child to the nearest emergency room.  Please consider the resources offered on the  PREVENTION and SCHOOL CULTURE (https://www.dcsdk12.org/prevention-and-school-culture) website if you want to learn more about this topic.

In Partnership,

Michele Radke- Principal
Nicole Goering, Ed.S., NCSP- Licensed School Psychologist

2017-2018 TTE CALENDAR

Timber Trail Elementary will follow the DCSD 2017-2018 Conventional Calendar.  The exception to this is Monday, October 16, 2017 (Monday after fall break) and Monday, March 26, 2018 (Monday after spring break)  when TTE students will not attend school due to teacher professional development.  These two dates only pertain to Timber Trail.  Other schools in the Rock Canyon feeder will have school on those two days.  Timber Trail has five more minutes in our day to provide for two additional staff development days in the year. Again, this change is only for Timber Trail Elementary, not the entire district.

DCSD HEALTHY SCHOOLS PRESENTS “SCREENAGERS:  GROWING UP IN THE DIGITAL AGE

Thursday, February 2, 2017, Mountain Vista High School  7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:15 p.m.)

Film begins at 7:00 followed by a moderated discussion

    Tickets: $5 - Watch trailer here:  http://www.screenagersmovie.com/ / Register here:http://impactflow.com/event/presented-by-douglas-county-school-district-1377

Are you watching kids scroll through life? With their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well. In SCREENAGERS, as with her award-winning documentaries on mental health, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, we welcome you to discover surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists in this extraordinary and timely film.  Please contact Kimberly Romine at kcromine@dcsdk12.org or Lauren LaComb at lllacomb@dcsdk12.org for additional information.
