One Book One School

Celebrated author and illustrator Henry Cole uses stunningly detailed black-and-white artwork to illuminate a tale of friendship between an adventurous mouse and a boy who would become one of America’s greatest presidents.

“Evocative illustrations, compelling characters, and thoughtful reflections on the nature of home combine to powerful effect.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Final Activity for the week of Oct. 22nd

Design a book mark using setting and characters from the book we are reading, Another Quest For Celeste by Henry Cole.  All book marks must be uniform so pick up a blank book mark from your teacher (card stock 2 3/4"x8 1/2").  One book mark per grade will be chosen to be reproduced for your entire grade level.  Make it colorful and detailed, do your best work.  All book marks are due in by Monday October 29th so that judging can take place.  The specials teachers will be our judges and one of them is an artist...just saying.

Activity for the week of Oct. 14th

In the story Another Quest for Celeste, one of the characters lives in a log cabin.  For this weeks activity, using found materials at home, design a log cabin no bigger than 12 inches by 12 inches to be displayed in the library.

Activity for the week of Oct. 1st

Celeste is hiding around Sand Creek again this week.  If you find her hiding spot fill out a Celeste Note and turn it in to your teacher.  Listen for the clue on the morning announcements.  Remember you do not have to move anything to find her, you can find her with your eyes.

Activity for the week of Sept. 24th

This week in Another Quest for Celeste, by Henry Cole, Forest and Chloe tell about how beavers were hunted to near extinction in the 1800's. Your activity for the week is to research and endangered species using the World Wildlife Website.  You can use this form:  ( K-1)   (2-6)  for your research.  Please turn your completed form in to your teacher by Thursday Sept. 27th.

Activity for the week of Sept 17th

Along her journey Celeste hides out in many places, a cotton bale, a cigar box and a barrel of corn meal.  This week she is hiding somewhere around Sand Creek!  When you find her, don't spoil the fun for someone else, just write her hiding spot on a Celeste Note and turn it in to your teacher.   YOU DO NOT NEED TO MOVE ANYTHING TO FIND HER.  LOOK WITH YOUR EYES!  Listen for the clue on the morning announcements.
