Mrs. Campbell Welcome Letter

Welcome to Kindergarten! It is my pleasure to welcome you and your child to kindergarten! This will be a wonderful year full of learning and fun, not to mention, an incredible year of change. You will be amazed as you watch your child bloom as a friend, reader, writer, mathematician, scientist, thinker, and so much more! We have so much planned this year, and I cannot wait to get to know you and your child. This is my 6th year as an educator. I have also taught preschool, prior to teaching kindergarten. I have loved each part of my journey, and love teaching. This year I will be teaching Half-Day Kindergarten.

I met my husband, Nate, in Colorado Springs. Together, we have three boys. I received my bachelor degree in elementary education, and master degree in special education from Colorado Christian University. In my spare time, my family enjoys to going camping, hiking, and watching movies. Every once and awhile, I enjoy getting away from the boys and going shopping!

I am looking forward to meeting you and your child at the SCE Supply Drop-Off on Tuesday, August 7th from 4-6pm. As a convenience please bring school supplies to school on this day. Previously purchased EPI school kits should already be in the classroom. To start the school year off right here are a few logistical items for you to note:

  • The 1st day of school is August 9th! This will be an orientation day for students and parents. On Orientation day, parents and kindergarteners will come to school together and stay from 9:10-11:00. We will accomplish many things on this day: explore the room, hear about kindergarten curriculum, goals and standards, meet our leadership team, and make a project together. Please bring a picture of your child on this day (3X5 or smaller), we will use it for a class project.
  • School begins each day at 9:10am (the first bell rings at 9:05). Students come into the Kindergarten room, through the Kindergarten door every morning and enter the classroom without parent support (please start this routine on the first day). The Kindergarten door is to the left of the front door near the playground. There will be supervision at the door beginning at 8:55am. Please do not bring your student earlier than 8:55am as there will be no one to watch them. Students are NOT permitted to play on the playground before or after school, for safety reasons.
  • School ends each day at 12:00pm. It is critical that your student knows how they are getting home at the end of each day. Their is NO bus service home from morning Kindergarten.  If you are picking your student up at the end of the day you can meet them outside of the Kindergarten door.
  • We will have a snack time everyday. Students should plan to bring their own healthy snack and spill proof water bottle daily. Daily snacks are not provided by Sand Creek. (Click HERE for healthy snack ideas).
  • Please label your student’s composition notebook, spiral notebook, supply box and backpack. All other supplies will be shared, so they do not need to be labeled.
  • Please place an extra set of clothes in a Ziploc bag, labeled with your student’s name, in your student’s backpack. It is important that we have an extra set of clothes in case of spills or accidents.

If you have any questions please e-mail me at melissa.campbell@dcsdk12.org. I would also encourage you to locate and bookmark the classroom website Half Day Kindergarten News as it will be an important source of information throughout the school year. You can find the classroom website under the classrooms tab on the Sand Creek website. Thank you in advance for trusting me with your most precious possession.  I promise to treat your child the way I would want my child to be treated. I am not perfect, but I will do my best to make this an amazing year!
