The students have been writing persuasive paragraphs.  Our focus is writing double topic sentences and the discussing the importance of stating their reasons with examples.  They are also reading nonfiction articles and working on writing detailed constructed responses.

This week, students will be working on writing introductions for persuasive writing.  Using a hook, with supporting details and introducing a thesis statement.

They will also write thank-you notes to their amazing counselors at Out Door Ed.

Introduction to Writing

Every Child a Writer is a comprehensive program of instruction and assessment designed to ensure student mastery of the Common Core English Language Arts Standards.  Although this program will be taught throughout the year, the students will be writing short stories, poetry, journal writing, and an autobiography.

Students become better writers and enjoy the writing process, when they have choice in their writing.  We will begin with the genre of persuasive writing, and will revisit it several times through out the year.
