About me

I have been teaching in Douglas County for the last 17 years. I began teaching 4th grade at Castle Rock Elementary. I taught 4th grade students for 9 years and moved up to 5th grade where I remained for 2 years. I made the move to Sand Creek Elementary because I was aware SCE had a wonderful staff and administration. Another bonus was the close proximity to my home. No more traveling 60 minutes on I-25! Teaching 6th grade students is amazing. Watching students grow emotionally and academically while preparing for middle school has been an experience I treasure. I believe I have found my true passion working with 6th grade students at Sand Creek.

I have a Political Science/History degree from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. I worked for several years at a law firm in downtown Denver. I left the firm to begin a family and didn't return to work until my children were older. Before reentering the workplace, I decided it was finally time to pursue my desire to work with kids. I went back to school to get my teaching license at the University of Colorado, Denver. I recently completed 90 hours of science professional development through a science research group called Stella/BSCS taught at Denver University by DU professors. I am blessed to pass along my love of science to the 6th graders at SCE.

My husband and I have been married for 35 years in November. We have two children. Our daughter, Allison, is a graduate from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  Allison is currently working as a tissue bank coordinator at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Our son, Dylan, graduated from Metro State University and works at West Communications.

My husband and I inherited Dylan's American Bull Dog, Lou. We also have a rescue dog named, Foster. Foster is a Australian Shepard and loves to play ball. We enjoy taking long walks with "the boys" in the greenbelt discovering all the amazing organisms found there.
