About Me

Dear Parents,

Hello my name is Mrs. Embrey and I am going to be your child's second grade teacher, this year!!!  I look forward to meeting you at our "Supply Drop off" time on Monday, August 7th between 9-10:30am or on our first day of schoool on Thursday, August 10th.  Please put your child's name on his/her folders, composition books, scissors, ruler, clip board, colored pencil box, crayon box and pencil box.  Sharpened pencils, dry erase markers, erasers, glue sticks, notebook paper, sticky notes, baggies and kleenex will be shared among all of the students, so names do not need to be put on these items.

For those of you who have not yet met me, I would like to share a little bit about myself.  My husband, Joe, and I have two daughters.  Our oldest daughter, Sara, was a social worker for nearly 4 years and is in the midst of exploring new career opportunities.  We wish her well as she starts a new chapter of her life!  Our younger daughter, Kristen, recently graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, where she played competitive ice hockey and double majored in Art and Communication.  She has just been accepted to play competitive ice hockey for a women's team in Sydney, Australia.  We wish her well, too, as she begins a new chapter of her life!  My family has lived in Highlands Ranch, Colorado for 17 years, after moving here from Sterling, Virginia.  We have two cats named Bella and Bo, along with my daughter's six and a half year old lab mix named Blue, who has one blue eye and one brown eye.  When growing up, I was fortunate to have lived and attended schools in Italy, Germany and Hong Kong.  Being exposed to these different cultures was an incredible and invaluable education and experience.  I have been in the education field for over 20 years.  I taught preschool through 2nd grade in Virginia.  Since moving to Colorado, I have taught 6th grade, 1st grade, substitute taught K-6th grade and am now heading into my 4th year of teaching 2nd grade, in the Douglas County School District.  In my free time, I love to travel, cook, try new restaurants and spend time with my family.

I am very excited to work with your child this year!!!  I can't wait to help him or her continue on his or her journey in becoming life-long learners!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at betsy.embrey@dcsdk12.org.
