Principal's Update

Hello SRE families!


Can you believe that we only have 6 more weeks of the school year?!?! Time definitely flies when we are having fun :)


Below are a few updates that summarize the past few months and a peek into the future:


  • Staffing Update 2018-2019

    • New Hires

      • Rebecca Von Duerring will be joining our Kindergarten team as the second Full Day teacher. Ms. Von Duerring is coming back to DCSD after spending a few years teaching in Aurora Public Schools. We are excited to welcome her to Saddle Ranch!

      • I am thrilled to introduce Mrs. Merideth Phelps to our 1st grade team. Merideth comes to us with over 30 years of elementary (1st-6th) teaching experience in Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado.

      • Our new Intervention Specialist for Gift/Talented is Ms. Sheri Sims. Ms. Sims is coming to DCSD from Texas with her two children. She is currently a GT Specialist at two elementary schools in Tomball, TX. She is also a certified school counselor with related years of experience. Welcome Sheri!

      • We are honored to have Mr. Nick Meehan at SRE as the new Significant Support Needs (SSN) teacher. Nick and his family are moving to Colorado from Anaheim, California. He is currently the lead teacher for a Significant Needs program plus has several years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He will be a great addition to our ISS team.


    • Grade Level Team Adjustments

      • Mr. Agasa will be moving from 6th grade to 4th grade. He has previously taught 3rd and 4th grades, and had the desire to return to one of these grade levels.

      • Mrs. Meyer wanted to make a radical shift to continue her development as a teacher. She will be moving from Kindergarten to 6th grade. She will be leading writing for our older students.

      • Mrs. Davis was excited to have the opportunity to return to her most favorite grade level...Kindergarten. She will be one of two full day Kindergarten teachers.


    • Attrition

      • Mrs. Niki Mitchell will be retiring at the end of this school year. She has had a amazing experiences in several schools in DCSD spanning 26 years. SRE was blessed to have her for the last 5 years. She is excited to begin another chapter. Congratulations Mrs. Mitchell!

      • Mrs. Julie Podagrosi is on the move! She will be relocating to Illinois to be closer to family. Mrs. Podagrosi is looking forward to some much desired time off and is excited to catch up with friends and relatives. Thank you for all that you have done for DCSD for the past 16 years. Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang; you will be missed!

      • Mr. Thor Romero is pursuing opportunities in the field of advocacy for persons with disabilities. He is looking forward to working with young adults as they transition into the workforce. You are appreciated!

      • The copy room clerical position at SRE is being eliminated due to budgetary restraints. Mrs. Deb Warren has been a Mustang for the past 18 years. Her loyalty and commitment to the success of students and staff are extraordinary. Thank you Deb for your service!!

  • SRE Student Placement Input Sheet  

    • As in past years, parents will have an opportunity to complete a Student Placement Input Form. This information will assist us in building class lists for the 2018-2019 school year.  This form will be sent out to families on Thursday, April 12 with a deadline of Thursday, April 28th. Thank you for refraining from requesting specific teachers; such requests will not be accepted nor honored.


  • SRE Saddle Up Silent Auction

    • Our PTIO has been working incredibly hard to make this year’s Silent Auction a huge success. If you do not already have this event on your calendar and have yet to purchase your event tickets, do it now!  We are looking forward to an evening of laughter, community building and most importantly, raising funds to support the academic and social/emotional needs of our students.     • A very special THANK YOU to the PTIO board members and volunteers who have given up precious time with their families and their everyday jobs to make this event a success. Please know your hard work, dedication, high stress and sleepless nights are beyond appreciated!!!!!  When you see the following ladies, please stop and show them your appreciation:

  • SRE & Philanthropy/Volunteering Opportunity

    • We are looking for interested students and families who would like to volunteer with us at Highline Place (memory care center in Littleton). SRE volunteers visit with residents to play games, work on arts/crafts, tell stories, and just talk with the residents. What an incredible display of respect, compassion, kindness and selflessness!

    • We are looking for 12-15 students/parents to join us on the following dates:

      • April 26, 3:45-4:30 pm

      • May 10, 3:45-4:30 pm

  • Earth Week (4/16-4/19)

    • Thank you to Mrs. Katie Juan for promoting and organizing fun activities throughout Earth Week. Activities for the week of April 16 include:

      • Monday = Soil

        • Wear Brown

        • Learning about compost

      • Tuesday = Air Quality

        • Wear Blue

        • Learning about pollution

        • Pick of trash around SRE

      • Wednesday = Sun and Solar

        • Wear Yellow

        • Learn about solar energy

        • Plant vegetables

        • Clean-up SRE Garden

      • Thursday = Planting and Tree

        • Wear Green

        • Learn about Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

        • NO TRASH lunch day

    • April 20 = No school; Teacher Comp day (for spring conferences)

    • April 23 = SAC meeting; 6:00-7:15pm

    • April 25-27 = Little Mustang Auction ticket sales

    • April 28 = 4th Annual SRE Silent Auction @ Bowlero; 7:00-10:00pm

    • May 1 = Kindergarten Information Night; 6:00-6:45pm (gym)

    • May 3 = Screenagers; 6:30-8:00pm

    • May 7 - 11 = Staff Appreciation Week

    • May 8 = Restaurant Night; Cold Stone Creamery 5:00-8:00pm

    • May 11 = Field Day (more details coming soon)

    • May 21 = SAC meeting; 8:45-9:45am

    • May 24 = 6th grade clap-out; 3:00pm

    • May 25 = Last Day of School

    • May 25 = 6th grade Continuation; 9:00am

    • May 26 = ThunderRidge High School graduation; University of Denver @ 1:00pm

    • May 29 = Teacher Work day (last day for teachers)
