School Advisory Council (SAC)

What is SAC? SAC stands for School Accountability Committee. The purpose of the SAC is to inform, encourage and provide opportunities for parent and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school’s instructional program and quality improvement processes.  The SAC makes recommendations concerning the school’s Performance, Improvement, Priority Improvement, or Turnaround plan, and meets at least quarterly to discuss implementation of the school’s plan and other progress pertinent to the school’s accreditation contract with the Board of Education. The SAC also makes recommendations to the principal for prioritizing spending of school monies.  Final decision-making authority rests with the principal or other person or group receiving the recommendation from the SAC (e.g., The Superintendent, District Accountability Committee (“DAC”) or Board of Education).

Who is involved? The SAC board consists of the Principal, a Teacher Representative, at least 4 Parent Representatives, and a Community Representative. Of the seven positions noted on the board, 4 of those mentioned take on the role of Chair, Vice Chair, Recorder, and DAC (District Accountability Committee) Liaison by a vote of the 7-member board. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings.

What do attendees do at SAC meetings? The parents who attend the meetings will have an opportunity to just sit and listen to the discussions between the Principal and the rest of the SAC board members and any guest speakers. Parent guests at the SAC meeting have no expectations placed upon them, other than to understand the material presented at the meetings and be a positive voice in the community while sharing the information with others. If desired, there is an open forum at the end of each meeting where parents can bring any appropriate concerns in front of the SAC board.

Why should you participate in SAC? Do you want to get involved in your child’s school? Do you want to know more about Pine Lane’s educational practices and how they apply to your student(s)?  Do you have questions, thoughts, ideas about Pine Lane’s curriculum, instruction and assessment practices?  Do you have ideas, suggestions and thoughts about how to improve our school?  This is the group for you!

***ATTENTION, SAC MEMBERS!  YOUR INPUT IS NEEDED!! SEE INFO BELOW!!!***

In case you missed it, there was a '2017 Special Budget Session" on 9.27.17'.  From this session, all SACs were tasked with an action item pertaining to completing
the following - School Accountability Committee - Budget Priority Questionnaire for 2018-2019.

"Dear School Accountability Committees: After having watched the Budget video(s), and knowing that the district has limited budget resources after addressing statutory
requirements, and discussing funding issues and needs with your Principal/Head of School.  This survey is due back to the DAC by November 3, 2017.

As the Douglas County School District begins the budget development process for 2018-19, please rank how your SAC believes those funds would best be spent.
Our PLE SAC has been asked to prioritize the following items from 1 to 7 (1 - Most important and 7 - Least Important)
  • Capital and infrastructure repairs/enhancements, excluding technology (i.e. new carpet, roof repairs, painting, boiler repair/replacement, etc.)
  • Mental Health (i.e. additional counselors, student & parent education forums/programming, etc.)
  • Safety/Security (i.e. door locks, key cards, additional School Resource Officers, etc.)
  • SBB (Additional SBB to schools) (i.e. for principals to use for additional programming options, more support staff, lower classroom ratios, etc.)
  • Staff and Teacher Compensation
  • Technology (i.e. additional computers in schools, etc.)
  • Transportation (i.e. increased transportation options, lower bus fees, purchase of newer/additional buses, etc.)"
