As we wind down the year, we continue to plan and look forward to the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. Part of our planning process has been to                                     collaborate as a school to determine how to continue to push our practice forward to the benefit of our students.

As a school, we have chosen to partner with EL Education, formerly known as Expeditionary Learning, for professional development opportunities for the                        next couple of years. We are EXTREMELY excited about this partnership and about becoming a “Neighborhood School with an EL Education Focus.”

Many of you may have questions around what EL Education is and what it will mean for our students.

I’d like to invite you to our EL Education Parent Information Night

May 17th, 2017

South Campus Gym 5:30pm - 6:30pm

Inf                 Please feel free to also join us that same evening, from 4:30-5:30 for our monthly School Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting. This committee diligently                         supports our work and provides a voice for families and community members to collaborate with our school to best support our students.

To give you the “Reader’s Digest Version” of what this partnership with EL Education will mean for our school, I’d like to give you some brief information                         here to help build your background around this great approach to learning.

This partnership will help our staff continue to dive deeper into items that we are currently working on as a school. Our Building Leadership team has                               established two long term goals for our school. They are:

      •  Create a collaborative community among staff, students, and parents to support a positive restorative environment that nurtures a growth mindset     and risk taking.
      • Our staff will differentiate and collaborate with students to personalize learning through the use of the Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum and best     instructional practices.

In order to support this work, we are partnering with EL Education to come to our school and provide professional development and coaching sessions for our                      staff around two of their modules; Assessment in the Daily Classroom and Management in the Active Classroom.

These two modules will support our goals in numerous different ways. The Management in the Active Classroom Module will support our staff to deepen our                      toolboxes around protocols and approaches to make our classroom and school culture safe, supportive, and inclusive for anyone who walks through our                             doors.

The Assessment in the Daily Classroom Module will support our staff to dig deeper into partnering with students around their assessment data, their                                     personalized goals and next steps, and to partner with students to ensure the highest quality of work is produced by each student.

Again, I know that many of us will have questions about these overviews and what this means for our students. Please come to our EL Education Parent                              Information Night on May 17, 2017 from 5:30-6:30 to hear more!  We are so excited for this adventure and how it will continue to support our amazing                              students and  staff!
