Shannon Clarke, Principal

I am excited to be back with the Mountain Ridge family.  I am beginning my 22nd year in education.  I spent 8 years teaching middle school and high school Language Arts/English.  I worked at the district level for two years coordinating assessments, curriculum, and gifted and talented services.  The rest of my time has been spent as a middle school principal, which is where my passion lies.  I truly love this age!  I am fortunate to walk into a building every day where every teacher and administrator has the same passion and love for middle school students.

I am a Colorado native!  I earned my BA in English from Colorado State University and my MA in Administrative Leadership from the University of Colorado.  I am married and have one son.  We are beginning his Senior year at Vista!  I enjoy watching all different kinds of sports, spending time with family, and reading!  I love reading books that help keep me up to date on what is happening in education and best practices for middle level learners.  I also enjoy relaxing with a good novel!

I am excited to continue working with the Mountain Ridge staff, students, parents and community.  Let's make this a great year!

Trena Hand, 8th Grade Assistant Principal

It is my privilege to serve as the 8th grade Assistant Principal at Mountain Ridge this year.  I have worked in DCSD since 2004, serving as a middle school and high school English, Literacy, and ESL teacher.  In 2013, I began my career in Educational Leadership and School Administration as an Instructional Coach/Dean of Students, and continuing my career path serving as an Assistant Principal.  My true passion lies within the walls of a middle school and I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to continue working with our students and the passionate teachers for my third year at MRMS!

In addition to being an educator, I am also a mom to a very precocious eight year old named Sullivan who has aspirations to eventually become a Ram.  Both he and my husband Matt keep me on my toes with our adventures in traveling, yoga, golfing, and enjoying the Colorado outdoors!  Though I was born in Indiana, Colorado will always remain my home as I lived here for over twenty years.

It is such a great privilege to be a part of the Mountain Ridge family and I am so excited to continue building partnerships with the students, teachers, parents, and the community of Highlands Ranch.

Robin Fender, Dean of Students

This is my third year at MRMS and I look forward to experiencing all that middle school and this year has to offer. I am eager and always willing to contribute to the already positive environment that we try to maintain here at school.  I have been fortunate to learn and grow for the last 23 years in Douglas County in a multitude of positions ranging from teacher to Administrative Intern, Assistant Principal and Dean. We are always looking to work as a team to help your child navigate the middle school years. Please don't hesitate to contact me to collaborate and support your child.

Prior to Douglas County, I spent four years as a teacher in Houston, Texas in Alief ISD.    After four years in Texas, I realized that Colorado was the place I wanted to enjoy my career and all of my outdoor passions -- mountain biking, hiking, paddle boarding and just about anything outdoors.  As the Dean of Students at Mountain Ridge, I look forward to watching and helping your child grow academically, socially and emotionally by holding myself, staff, and students to the Seattle Fish Company’s philosophy of:

This philosophy has been around for some time, and in my mind, these words can never get old.

Let’s all work together to ROCK this year!

Mark Harmon - 7th Grade Assistant Principal

I am so excited to join the Mountain Ridge team as the 7th grade Assistant Principal this year!  I am beginning my 15th year in education. I previously worked 14 years in Denver Public Schools as a bilingual elementary and high school teacher and middle school administrator in Southwest Denver.

I have lived in Highlands Ranch for 13 years with my wife and soulmate Julie who works as a software engineer.  We met during our service in the US Army. We have two wonderful children. Our daughter Alex (28 years old) and our son Gavin (7 years old).  My undergraduate degree is from the University of Minnesota. I have a Masters in Bilingual and Multicultural Education from CU Boulder, and earned my administrator’s license from Denver University (DU).

I love the work of education and helping to shape the the futures of students we serve by working in partnership with teachers, parents and the community.  It takes a village!  My ultimate goal is to ensure that we, through our collective efforts, meet every students’ academic, social and emotional needs.  In doing so, I believe we give them the foundation they need to attain their dreams and be successful in whatever direction life’s aspirations may take them.  I look forward to working with you all in my new capacity at MRMS!
